Bathrooms on the island have the same problem in two different houses. For the cottages we rebuild the wet area properly, with new subfloor where the old one has softened, a waterproofed tile shower and a window treatment that can live in a shower, while keeping the room's proportions. For the beach houses and condos, the fastest change is a tub-to-shower conversion with a large-format tile surround and frameless glass: five to eight working days, no permit when the plumbing stays put.
Everything is specified for salt air and humidity: exterior-vented fans, stainless or solid-brass fixtures, and epoxy or high-performance grout.
